Abstract

Background: The problem of malnutrition in Indonesia is a health problem that has not been fully resolved by the government. Short nutritional status or stunting is a condition in which a person's height is less than normal based on age and gender. Height is one type of anthropometric examination and indicates poor nutritional status (malnutrition) in the long term/chronic. Stunting will have an impact on functional disorders such as cognitive abilities and poor academic achievement so that it can lead to a lack of income in the future, up to the loss of labor market productivity, which results in the loss of 11% of GDP (Gross Domestic Products) and reduces the income of adult workers by 20%. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between short nutritional status (stunting) and dental caries (dmft) in children preschool in Sukabumi Indah Village, Bandar Lampung City. Method: survey method with a cross-sectional approach, the sample of this study was children 3-5 years old in Sukabumi Indah Village, Bandar Lampung City totaling 150 children. The measuring instrument used was Microtoise staturemeter as well as dental examination status, data analysis Data analysis was carried out by calculating the Chi Square test. Result: Nutritional status with caries experience (dmft) had a significant relationship, where the mean dmfs in the stunted child group was 14.03 ± 6.16, while the mean dmfs in the normal child group was 7.47 ± 3.74 (p=0.0001). Conclusion: nutritional status affects the occurrence of caries.

Abstract

The golden snail is a freshwater mollusk that is an important pest of rice cultivation in Asia. The gold snail shell is almost entirely made of calcium carbonate, which has great potential to assist the manufacture of hydroxyapatite. The content of chitosan in golden snail shells contains an amine group as an antimicrobial substance so that it can inhibit bacterial growth. Calcium carbonate has low solubility in air, which makes it able to neutralize lactic acid and maintain pH at a certain level automatically. Previous research experimentally revealed that the golden snail shell paste (Pomacea canaliculata L.) was able to increase calcium in saliva so that at a concentration of 5% it was able to harden enamel. In this research proposal, the researcher wants to know the effect of shell paste on caries inhibition by looking at the inhibitory power of the paste (streptococcus) and the increase in salivary pH after applying the paste, with the formulation of whether gold snail shell paste is effective in inhibiting the caries process? This research is true experimental research (laboratory) with a post-test control group design, with a total sample of 15 media, divided into 3 treatment groups. It was carried out in the bacteriology laboratory of TLM Poltekkes Palembang. Data analysis used two-way Anova test. The results of this study stated that 5% gold snail shell paste was able to inhibit the caries process by neutralizing salivary pH with calcium carbonate and inhibiting bacteria by chitosan.

Abstract

Background: Little dentists were selected elementary school students who become UKGS cadres to play an active role in implementing some health improvement efforts in their schools. UKGS activities run less than optimally due to the lack of involvement of small doctor cadres and very minimal knowledge about dental and oral health owned by small doctor cadres. The prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia is still high, namely 92,6% for the age group 5-9 years and 73,4% for the age group of 10-14 years. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out various innovations and breakthroughs to prevent caries, one of which is the small dentist training module innovation. The use of modules in health education has a positive impact on increasing knowledge. Modules were printed teaching materials that are designed to be studied independently by learning participants without being accompanied by a teacher. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of using the training module on the knowledge level of small dentist cadres. Methods: This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with Pre and Post with Control Group Design with a total sample of 30 people from each group. Results: The results of the influence analysis before and after training using the cadre training module using the Paired T-Test obtained ?-value = 0.000 (? <0.05), meaning that there is a significant change in the average knowledge score before and after training using the module small dentist cadre training. The difference in the value of knowledge after cadre training between the intervention group and the control group resulted in ?-value = 0.043 (?<0.05), which means that there was a significant difference between the intervention group and the control group.

Abstract

Introduction: For a long time, the prevention of cross-contamination in dentistry has mainly been concentrated in the operating room. Activity related to laboratory work, a potential source of pathogen transmission, is therefore often overlooked. In addition, the practice of prosthodontics often gives the impression that aseptic measures cannot be rigorously applied. Several factors account for this situation. Designing a prosthesis involves handling a certain number of potentially contaminated and heat-sensitive objects (prostheses, impressions, wax tubes, occlusion bites, etc.). The items transferred between the dental office and the dental laboratory as well as the prosthetic instruments constitute the main chain of cross contamination in prosthodontics. Thus, an evaluation of the dentists and prosthetists’ compliance with regard to their asepsis through a cross-sectional study was necessary. Methods: two anonymous questionnaires were distributed. The first was among the dentists and the second to dental prosthetists in the public and private sectors.  Results: From the 302 questionnaires distributed, only 220 were filled-in. 78% of the dentists and 37% of the prosthetists know the disinfection protocol of reusable instrumentation. 80.3% of the dentists and 74.1% of the prosthetists disinfect their prosthetic work but with varying percentages according to the group of items (impressions, prosthesis, etc.). 71.5% of the practitioners and 18.5% of the technicians disinfect their laboratory instruments systematically. However, 45% of the dentists and 54% of the prosthetists think they are not exposed to infections. Discussion: The results showed an insufficient level of knowledge and compliance to ensure asepsis of the prosthetic work both in the public and private sectors, contributing to a relatively high level of exposure to infections compared to a Canadian study. Conclusion: Given the insufficient compliance and in order to remedy these deficiencies, a simple decontamination protocol is suggested. Improving awareness and providing continuous training are then required.
